ABOUT THE MARKETING COORDINATOR
The Marketing Coordinator is a strategic thinker with a collaborative mindset, excellent attention to detail, and strong graphic design skills. They are able to work successfully as a part of a team to shape the voice and visual representation of KST’s mission and programs. The key responsibilities of the Marketing Coordinator are to manage weekly email marketing and web content updates, design and schedule social media activity with ongoing attention, and support the Marketing Specialist. All efforts are aimed at achieving an exciting, inclusive, and consistent institutional identity that encourages event attendance and drives ticket revenue goals; builds the organization’s diverse audience, member, and donor base; and increases the organization’s visibility in the community.
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time (20 hours/week), Non-exempt.
REPORTS TO: Marketing Specialist
DIRECT REPORTS: Marketing Interns
SALARY & BENEFITS: $17/hr with access to group health, dental, and vision benefits which Kelly Strayhorn Theater pays a portion of the premium and paid time off (PTO) including two weeks paid winter break and up to 9 floating PTO days per fiscal year.
SCHEDULE
Please note that this is not a remote position. You may work up to twenty hours per week on site at KST’s offices. Our typical office hours are 10am-6pm on weekdays and this position also requires some evening and weekend hours. We will work with you to craft the best schedule.

ABOUT KELLY STRAYHORN THEATER
Named after 20th-century entertainment legends and Pittsburgh natives Gene Kelly and Billy Strayhorn, Kelly Strayhorn Theater (KST) is a home for creative experimentation, community dialogue, and collective action rooted in the liberation of Black and queer people. KST takes a multidisciplinary approach to presenting contemporary performing arts while examining the questions that define and inspire us as individuals and communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing
- Maintain and update the KST website weekly
- Draft and send weekly KST Presents email marketing
- Execute Graphic Design for print and digital collateral with input from Marketing and Programming leadership
- Ensure all KST digital and print collateral meets organizational standards of visual engagement, consistency, and alignment with KST’s established brand identity.
Social Media
- Create, schedule, and publish relevant, original, high-quality content on all KST social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube
- Implement and manage KST social media efforts and website posts of KST’s presenting and producing programs, including KST Presents, Freshworks, The Alloy School, rental events, and Special Events
- Engage followers across platforms, elevating posts from KST partner organizations and collaborators
- Work closely with Marketing Specialist to implement and manage a content calendar
- Plan specific content campaigns for signature KST Presents events or KST initiatives
- Identify opportunities for KST staff team and artists to participate in social media and marketing efforts
- Take KST’s online brand presence to the next level as reflected by increased fans/followers; and engagement -- likes/shares/retweets/ and tags
Events
- Work with the Marketing Manager to ensure departmental coverage of all KST events. (This job requires some evening and weekend hours with the opportunity to flex your schedule)
- Guide event photographers to identify and include key stakeholders
REQUIREMENTS
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging and the willingness to prioritize and foster a commitment to valuing differences of race, ethnicity, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstances.
- Minimum two years of experience in marketing and public relations; performing arts experience with a broad understanding of all aspects of theater preferred.
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to represent well the KST organization to community groups, renters, patrons, donors, and volunteers.
- Experience managing project workflows and meeting deadlines
- Excellent writing and copywriting skills toward producing written content to support visual storytelling
- Working knowledge of current social media and email platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and MailChimp.
- A master of social media management tools (e.g. Hootsuite or Meta Business Suite); knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the tools in their digital tool belt.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, Hootsuite, and Canva. Video/audio editing experience is a plus.
- High visual intelligence with the ability to select the best image to tell the right story for each audience segment and platform.
- Knowledge of HTML, Wordpress, and CSS is a plus
- Knowledge of photo and video editing is a plus
Note: We are looking for someone that has good experience in most of the knowledge areas mentioned above, but most importantly someone that is able to learn quickly and implement new techniques!
