Position Title: Production Manager

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate is a gifted collaborator and strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage and build successful teams.

The Production Manager works efficiently and graciously under time constraints, operating with a high degree of integrity and transparency to effectively produce top-quality events and productions at our main stage theater, studio theater and occasionally offsite.

All applicants must have multi-faceted, hands-on technical experience with theatrical lighting, audio and A/V as well as stage and house management experience and be willing to work with a wide range of event types.                         A professional and accommodating ‘can-do’ attitude is a must.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the Production Manager and technical supervisor for all events
  • Offer guidance and technical expertise to presenting partner organizations and guest artists to ensure top quality events
  • Manage and maintain production budgets, venue calendars and event staffing for all activity
  • Advance and communicate pre-event details and post-event reporting
  • Practice professional standards of back stage operations and theater safety as outlined in the publications by USITT and the Back Stage Handbook
  • Perform preventative equipment and theater facility maintenance and upkeep as necessary; maintain inventory of expendables for each venue
  • Manage facility maintenance projects including posting and reviewing bids and working with contractors on various projects



  • Minimum five years professional working experience in technical theater production and management
  • Working knowledge of current industry standards for technical theater equipment and software
  • Experience negotiating contract riders and advancing production requirements including hang plots, light plots and mic/input plots
  • Cost-conscious with a demonstrated ability to work within budget
  • Extensive practical knowledge of proper theatrical rigging practices and handling of hard and soft scenic goods
  • Ability to perform basic facility and equipment maintenance and upkeep
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to represent the Kelly Strayhorn to community groups, licensees, constituents, patrons and volunteers
  • Willingness to work long hours and a flexible schedule


This position includes a competitive salary and benefits package; salary commensurate with experience.                This is a FULL TIME EXEMPT position.
