Producing Director

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Senior Manager/Supervisor

The Kelly Strayhorn Theater is a vibrant and vital multidisciplinary arts presenter dedicated to the culture and arts of our time. We are an anchor institution in our city’s most diverse neighborhood, and we leverage our resources, ingenuity and expertise in support of the creative work of emerging artists, producers and partner organizations. We invest locally, knowing we are connected globally.

Under the leadership of Executive Director, janera solomon, KST implemented a new business model in 2008, with significant success and growth, building an ambitious range of quality, contemporary programming and garnering accolades as a presenter, producer and mentor of emerging artists. The Kelly Strayhorn Theater has grown from a rental house to an exciting, arts presenter. Stakeholders praise the organization for our dedication to diversity, community engagement and world-class performance.

KST has become a cultural leader and with the support and commitment of the Heinz Endowments, KST has emerged as a mid-sized organization with a unique mission and perspective. We encourage, enable, and empower a spectrum of artists, collectives and independent organizations, which in turn, enriches both the artistic and cultural climate of Pittsburgh and the economic development of our neighborhood, East Liberty.

As we look toward the future, we see what is at stake within the changing context of our neighborhood, and importance of our work:

  • The diversity of our programs, and our commitment to artists and audiences of color has become even more urgent as development efforts attempt to rebrand East Liberty. Our work is an expression of an appreciation for the neighborhood’s rich history. We believe neighborhoods, like cities, are always changing, and cultural spaces must reflect diversity to build bridges between old and new residents.

  • We want to see participation in art and culture as a hallmark of life for those that live and work here, and for East Liberty to serve as a thriving model for the city of Pittsburgh. A place where economic development benefits all residents. A place where the unique cultural of our neighborhood is reflected in, and enlivened by, new growth.
